I've noticed that the same questions keep getting asked over and over again about these quail. Perhaps we should have a sticky that states a few of their basic care requirements.

Button quail are small birds weighing only 2-3oz. They must be bred in pairs and will mate for life. Putting two pairs together can result in fighting over territory during the breeding season. Male Button quail have red feathers around their vents. This is a sure way to sex all but the white variety of button quail. Button quail must be kept indoors or in a heated outdoor enviroment with no acceptions, especially during cold weather. If the temperature is below 50 degrees they will die if they are outside. They must have feed that is 20% protien or higher to stay healthy.

Correction, you guys have a sticky that's within a sticky.

I'm sure everyone knows about your sticky Quail Lady.

Just a quick blurb of info, so that we don't have another of those questions for a bit.

I've always had better results with one male to 3+ females because I find that he over breeds them otherwise. My enclosure was massive so it wasn't an overcrowding problem.

Seriously?
it's NOT about overcrowding exactly..... Chinese Blue Breasted Quail do not live in groups in the natural state. They pair off and stake a claim to their own territory. They are very territorial and during breeding season will fight over that area against others. Females and males alike. It is very STRESSFUL for them to be in groups .They are NOT covey birds like a coturnix etc is

Yes, we've established this already in about 50 threads! to each their own. I know of several breeders who colony breed and pass all other ways off.

This is ironic, though. I create this thread to try and cut down on these discussions and one pops up here.
