That's probably the best way to do it. You can add some pebbles to the bottom of it to wear the poop balls off as she moves around too.One of my buttons had a poop ball and piece of mulch stuck to her foot. I found a large Glad container, hubby drilled holes in the top and put warm water in it, about 1/4 inch. I put her in there for 7-8 minutes until the mass on her toe dissolved. I carefully sloshed the water around to help (with the lid on).
Then I took a cat carrier and put a towel in it. She's in that now drying. I didn't want to put her back in her cage wet. I'm going to save that container and label it: Quail Foot Bath. I'm sure I'll be needing it in the future.
I did it this way because they are scared of me and don't like to be handled. There was no way she'd let me hold her with one hand and message her foot with another. Except for me initially catching her, she stayed calm through it all.
Not me, but that sounds very cool.Do any of your buttons ever sound like guinea pigs? I often hear some soft oink-like sounds from them, so cute.
Giver her time. She'll lay again. My one hen hasn’t laid an egg since her partner died over a week ago. She’s gotten used to her new beau now. They snuggle up together for naps and for sleeping. Though she still runs from him, not wanting to mate.
He doesn’t force her or try to injure her or anything. Do you think she’ll lay again?
Edit: she gets regular calcium, everything all the others do.
Still not laying.Giver her time. She'll lay again.
How old is she? Is she getting enough calcium and at least 14 hours of light per day?Still not laying.
But my 6 1/2 weeks chicks are! I found 9 eggs from them this afternoon. Some were hiding under the heat plate! I tossed them because they were dirty and I didn't know how long they'd been under there.
She's one of the original 8 I bought in the beginning of Sept. The other hens I got with her are still laying. They're all getting the same feed, calcium, and daylight. Yes, at least 14 hrs. of light. How old is she? Is she getting enough calcium and at least 14 hours of light per day?
