Buying sexed poults?

Hi! I recently ran across a hatchery site selling sexed turkey poults, Valley of the Moon Turkeys. It is the ONLY site I have seen offering heritage breeds sexed. Is there any other company that does? My difficulty is that I need more hens, not toms, and by the time I am able to identify their sex myself, I’m already attached to the adorable little buggers and don’t want to kill off the extra toms... Anyone know of any reputable hatcheries offering something other than straight run for heritage breeds? Many thanks!

To my knowledge Valley of the Moon sells BB turkeys and some varieties of turkeys that are in between BBs and heritage. The sexed lines they sell have supposedly been bred for feather sexing.

Cackle sometimes (every other year or every third year) will offer sexed poults late in the season when their breeders are selling the extras from their replacement stock. If I am remembering correctly it usually happens late in the season. They definitely do not offer this sale every year.

For people wanting sexed birds, you are best to buy started birds locally. You will pay more because it costs to raise the poults to the 3 to 6 month age when they can be sexed.

Yes, the only heritage-type turkey they have is the black Norfolk/Spanish. Thanks for all the info, I really appreciate it!
