Was the Barred Rock one of the top hens? I'm sorry for your loss and that you now have to deal with getting rid of a rooster you didn't want and was dumped on you.

Likely some A-hole tossed him in there during the night.
It truly is a sad state of affairs when we have to protect our chickens from human predators.

I'd get a lock on the door.

I'm wondering if some opened the gate to let him in thinking he was mine.

You would think they would come and ask before letting him in if that was what happened.

Geeeezzz!!
Trespassing that easy at your place?

Had a friend drop a fish in my pond once.
One I had admired in his rain barrel, but it still kinda ticked me off.

The very cool nights have made the short but hot days bearable.
House is still stays pretty cool inside thru the days.

That is what happened several times to us when someone let a Foxterrier into our garden thinking it was our Willi returning home from a nice run on his own.
But is was Luke every time, a friendly Foxterrier from three villages over who would often escape his own yard and wander off when bored. He used to play for hours with our late Fritz and late Willi.
Just three days ago he showed up again on our front gate looking for some entertainment and DH drove him back just like we have done many times over the years.

Just saying that it is not always ill will when this happens.

Well, that wasn’t a terribly productive appointment. Basically he said, “Huh. That’s interesting. Bursitis makes sense. Keep taking your anti-inflammatory, don’t do the stuff that bothers it, wear a compression stocking for the swelling if you have one, and come back in two weeks. If there isn’t any resolution by then, we’ll dig deeper.”I guess that’s better than, “Oh. That’s not good at all…”
Very sorry that there was no help for you in this appointment.

How are you today, is the swelling subsiding?

You can try acupuncture and lymphatic drainage which helped me immensely when I had a huge pocket of fluid pressuring my nerves because of my impingement syndrome caused by acromion spurs.
I must have some hidden bat genes. 🤭

Thank you for asking. The swelling is still there, but I’ve been on my feet all weekend - the family was all home,(minus one grandkid and one DIL). Fortunately, it isn’t painful. Or maybe that’s unfortunate because I don’t feel the need to slow down and rest. Anyway, the area that has been painful is getting better. It hurts less frequently and less intensely, so I’m hopeful that it’s healing.

Well, Piper will be no help with the bullfrog.
