PennyJo, known to BYC members as pennyJo1960, has been a member of our community since December 2015. One of our wonderful all rounders, she is known for her friendliness and good advice.
1. Tell us a bit more about yourself.
Wisconsin child, grew up on a farm transplanted at 8 to Washington State. 16 years in Juneau Ak. Then return to Washington living in a few towns over the years. We, in a a bit of humour, call ourselves the Halfway Ranch in honor of my Father.
2. Why and when did you start keeping chickens?
About 5 yrs old my parents farm, now have my own birds, the last 4 years.
3. Which aspect(s) of chicken keeping do you enjoy the most?
Their antics, their individual personalities.
4. Which members of your flock, past and present, stand out for you and why?
Guess it must be my new additions 4 Silkie pullets from Hinotori here in Washington State.
Silky I now have in their tractor.
5. What was the funniest (chicken related) thing(s) that happened to you in your years as chicken owner?
Life day to day is funny if you have a flock there is always something day to day I would not be able to say what as they always give me a smile…
6. Beside chickens, what other pets do you keep?
We have 5 total dogs… Ticha is the smallest a rescue Chihuahua x Pomeranian. Looks like a fox you dipped in hot water, he is about 6 now… Raudy is a Corgi x Shetland sheepdog with a clippered soft coat he is roughly 14. Moose was bought on purpose a 1 year old black Labrador retriever that flunked as my service dog he is 5 now. Fear-Ah is a German Shepherd dog we rescued at 14 she is now 16. Last is Snow. Was supposed to be Great Pyrenees. No double dew claws. First clue looks more like Golden Retriever mix but we love her… 5 cats inside 3 more outside.
My little boy Ticha.
The crazy white dog, Snow.
The next is Moose, our loveable Lab.
Another rescue we love is Raudy.
Last but not least is Zephyr-ah, our GSD better known as Fear.
That pretty well does it in a nutshell. We have 5 indoor cats, 3 outside, 4 Silky and roughly 24 other chickens.
7. Anything you'd like to add?
I live with my Best friend in life and his adult son the three of us own a house ¾ an acre in quiet small town of Mossyrock, Washington State but a killer house and garage and just enough space for as many chickens as I want.
My Bf is Richard the light in my life.
James the Son he is 34 he is as sweet as his Dad.
These are a few of the newer girls before they could join the main coop.
I am privileged to be a member in a great website community of Backyard Chickens where I spend a good deal of time.
