I was told that Calf Mana is an excellent treat to use to bribe a skittish goat to become friendly. However, I did not see any feed products named Calf Mana. Has anyone else heard of it and is it sold under a different name?

It's a pellet that is manufactured by Manna Pro, I believe, and comes in several varieties. I haven't used any in awhile, but it was always a good source of high protein. I used that and milk replacer back when I was raising dairy calves. Most feed stores carry it. You may just have to ask for it.

Yes it is at bigger feed stores usually that have a better variety. Horses, cows, goats, pigs can all have it in moderation. Milk pellets are good for goats too to ad weight.....mix a small amount in their grain. Remember goats can get diarrhea real fast and easy. Make all food changes slow and with some of the other food they were on before and increase new as you decrease the old food.

eta: I seen the calf mana on line too....I believe at tractor supply.

It also helps new rabbit mothers and thru a molt and to increase their protein intake - however they love it and will pick it out and if not careful will make them really FAT!

That is an awfully expensive treat to use to get goats friendly. Calf Manna is no cheap.

I second checking out the sister site: www.backyardherds.com you'll actually find quite a few posts there on what others use for goat treats.

Personally I've found that:
Dried leaves are goat potato chips
Corn is goat candy

Thanks everyone.
Got the Calf Mana tip from the sister site.
I may try some of the other treats yal mentioned too as I gotta stay in budget til payday.

Calf manna is pretty expensive, I had to buy a bag over the summer for a calf that I was taking care of, and WOW I didn't expect it to cost as much as it did. I know the cows like apples and pears for treats, but corn or just plain grain will do the trick too. Good luck with your goat!
