Hi all,

I made a impulse decision and bought a call duck pair (one hen and one drake). My main questions is, can they live with standard size chickens? Will the drake inadvertently kill the chickens trying to mate?

I'm leaning on the safe side and just building them a separate coop, but just wanted to see if anyone has experience.

Thanks!

I have a bunch of roosters with my chickens - would that help protect them?

Sorry, this is a whole new world for me!

As long as he has the hen duck, your drake will most likely not try breeding with your chickens.
Not true :( my chickie is passing right now because I was foolish and kept them together. Our drake has pulled her insides out. One duckie hen was not enough. Please keep them separated and save yourself heartache

He absolutely will mate with them. I commented on a comment below that my chicken is passing as we speak because I did not keep them separated. One duck hen was not enough for my drake. My poor chickens insides are coming out. I didn't believe it and I procrastinated separating them and now my poor chicken is suffering from my foolishness. Save yourself heartache and keep them separated. You did good!!

I’m so sorry!! That was my fear too - I have kept them separate because I’m just too nervous.

I’m sorry about your poor chicken ❤️
