calling any one from missouri

I'm down to 2 hens one 7 year old and one 4 1/2 year old. When they are gone I'm out of the chicken business. The last egg I got was on 9/20 so back to store bought eggs now.

I've just recently went through the same scenario. Store eggs really suck but it had been so many years since I went anywhere for more than a day, I'm embracing it - for now.
My birds had always free ranged with little problem during the day but I had many flocks and each with a good rooster. Once coyotes got the last rooster, the hens weren't long for this world. I had a lot of problems going on at the same time so I lost focus.
I keep thinking of all the chicken infrastructure I have here but I'll get over it. If/when I do it again, it will probably be somewhere else.

I'm still letting my flock free range. I let them out daily an over a month ago to eat ticks after I was diagnosed w the alpha-gal allergy from tick bites. I'm surprised nothing has bothered them so far. I only let the older flock out, as they are more expendable. I am not feeling so enthusiastic about chicken keeping any more, and wasn't planning on replacing those lost, but as long as we are here, I guess I need them for tick patrol. There is a small younger flock still confined. IMG_8033.jpeg

If your "somewhere else" means a physical move, leave the coop, it will help with resale.
Buying store eggs sucks with the current prices. I know it's still cheaper in MO than other places but geez, so expensive.
I understand your current position of not having a flock. Even being new to this venture, I am rethinking our strategy as the yield does not justify the investment in time, energy or dollars.

I still have Coop Deux running without any chickens in there. The door opens and closes and the lights come on and the music plays all day.

What music do you play? I've read where classical is best for chickens I just don't have a speaker system set up outside yet but I'm thinking there could be a positive 'chill' factor for the environment and the people living here, for sure.

I play a variety of music styles from Country, Rock, Jazz, and Classical. I must admit my Classical is limited to Linus and Lucy
