I have 3 hens. 2 EE's and a Barred Rock. They have recently started laying. I'm a newbie on this. I'm on some days getting a blue egg, an olive egg, and a pink one! Some days I find a brown one , a blue and an olive. . My question is can a barred rock sometimes lay pink eggs when they are young?

Pigment can change by lightening and darkening. Generally the overall shape and look of a particular hens egg stays the same, so compare them based on shape to see if they are similar.

A Barred Rock "paints" brown pigment on a white egg. The actual amount of brown can vary somewhat. Some of my Barred Rocks also put a whitish bloom on top of the brown, resulting in an egg that looks pink.

Thanks, was curious as I was expecting brown eggs. They are all pretty much the same size though a little bigger this week. They do vary in shade from a light brown to a pretty pink. The EE's eggs are smaller yet. They started laying the last week of December.
