We have 2 feeder pigs now and was wondering if they can share an area with my chickens or if they need to be kept separate. Some have told me that the pigs will kill the chickens.

I appreciate any help, Thanks.

Pigs will eat anything. Why would you want your chickens scratching around in pig poop and eating what they find in there?

Lets say if the pigs are in the barn and the chickens are in the barn and the pigs have their own pen, that would be fine.

Thanks for the quick replies. I love BYC! The two pigs were a bit of a surprise and just trying to get everyone properly housed.

You just have to be careful. When my pigs are young and can't be on pasture yet they are penned. Even though they always have grain and are given fresh produce everyday I have seen them eat a chicken (and once a young turkey).

Once they have more space I haven't had a problem. On a side note its usually the younger chickens that are dumb enough to climb into the pen.

Good luck with your new pigs!

If theres plenty of room it should be fne,but dont try to place them together in a small area.
My neighbor once lost his prized show pair of chickens to his pigs. He put them together thinking the pigs would pretect the chickens, but instead they ate them.

Pigs will eat anything or anyone that they can. My last friendly pig ate several chickens and the tail off a goat. (The goat had her head stuck, horrible situation, the poor goat died, pig lost her freedom, then became sausage.) Pigs are now forever banned from the property.

PLEASE don't trust pigs with any small animals or children.

We have 3 hens, a roo, and a 5 mo old pot bellied pig in the pen together. So far, so good. Our coop is two storied, so the chickies go on top, and Sookie (our piggy) stays on the bottom.
