Sometimes you can find a higher protein layer feed. I get a 22% protein one locally, however, the best thing to do is to give birds in bad condition a Game Bird Breeder feed, which contains slightly higher protein as well as animal protein. It works wonders with hatchability of chicks and feather quality. What I use has 20% protein.
