I've been pricing the difference between 4x4's vs. landscape timbers today. There is a BIG difference in price between the two I discovered. The only probem is landscape timbers are all dipped in a stain (not pressure treated), thus the term cherrytone. I've been looking online this evening trying to find out if this stain is safe for animals...couldn't find a thing.

Has anyone used these for their chicken runs and/or know if they're okay to use? Help, please....and thank you!

Supposedly, there are no harmful chemicals used in treating wood any more.

I don't think I would be concerned. I would thinnk any leaching is going to go pretty much straight down, anyway.

Thanks, Judy, so much for replying! The price difference between the two is quite a lot, so I'll go with the landscape timbers for my run...thanks again, appreciate it!
