Can silkies eat peanuts removed from the shells, like in mix of bird food with raisins, pumpkin, sesame, sunflower, etc?

Hi there, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

A Silkie is a chicken. I don't see why not unless they have a peanut allergy.

Just remember that most seed are very high in fat and all treats should be kept to not more than 10% of their total daily intake.

Raw peanuts are BAD for chickens. Feeding your chickens raw peanuts is not recommended. That would be because of the existence of an enzyme called trypsin which seems to be harmful for the health of the tiny animals and birds. You should also keep in mind that salted peanuts are also not a treat option for your chickens. Pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, and sunflower seeds are fine. Raisins should be given on a limited basis, they are very fattening! Sounds like your chickens are going to be very spoiled! Lucky birds! :hugs

My silkies love to eat the wild bird food from Walmart I buy zero waste wild bird food deck porch and patio it doesn't have any seeds with shell's in it they are already off then I mix it with premium song bird food that has shell's and dried fruit in it cuz it's also for woodpeckers woodpeckers love drive-through that's why I bought it tried it with them and they love it they tore it up a lot faster than the chicken feed my silkies are 4 and 7 months they have been eating it for a month now. they are doing great when they were babies they ate the bird milk you get from pet smart then baby chick feed from Tractor Supply at first we had to add a little bit of water make it mushy so they would eat it and then slowly just wean them off of that I just putting less and less water in their feed
