Got my first fairy egg yesterday! I am curious to crack it open, and wondered can you eat it?Do you eat them, or feed them to the dog? Do you save them as conversation pieces?
I treat them the same as any other egg I am unsure about: crack it into a bowl, look at the inside & sniff it, then decide whether to cook for a person to eat, cook for a chicken or dog to eat, or throw it out.
A "fairy egg" will often have just white with no yolk, but I've occasionally seen ones with tiny yolks. Yolk or not does not affect whether I consider it fit to eat.
I keep mine! I set them in a windowsill and let them dry out. When the yolk dries out and rattles, I tap the ends with a needle until I "pip" a hole in each end, then I run a cord through them and string them to save as an ornament to hang in my kitchen, along with other special egg shells. Maybe tomorrow I will post a picture.
