Can you feed chickens steak?

Also something I didn't mention is that I also give them all the grit they want as well. And when they are eating meat and scraps, they go through a lot.

Actually this is a great time of year for the extra protein, as many chickens are starting their annual molt. Feathers are actually make of protein chains (keratin), and your girls will appreciate the extra!

Maybe we are saying you should eat more steak so you can give the scraps to the chickens and maybe we aren't haha. I say this as mine are eating a bunch of steak fat, old hamburgers, shrimp shells, taco meat, rice, bread , and other stuff that was in the fridge so long I forgot what it was.

Yeah I have fed mine chicken and beef before and they love it. Personally, I preffer to only feed them cooked meat, but as others have said they have caught and tried to eat mice and sparrows before. I say "tried" because most of the time I catch them in the act and take it away....I find it gross, lol, but chickens are indeed omnivorous and mine love pieces of potroast and steak scraps.

You are all talking about giving your chickens meat but has anyone given them a steak bone with a bit of meat still on it to pick off?

absolutely... All bones, chicken, pork, ham, steak all goes out for them to pick clean...

There are a few things I noticed mine don't eat well...Greens.......green beans, lettuce, peas etc, they just walk away from it.. I think I'm raising a bunch of carnivores lol

Wow. I haven't found anything mine won't eat yet! Green beans don't even hit the ground around here. I tossed some apple cores in yesterday and raced over to see if they pecked them or swallowed them whole. I ordered chickens, but think I got sent vultures. No food scrap at all goes in our garbage.

after thanksgiving I gave my girls the turkey carcass and they picked it clean.

there's not much I won't give them, just things I have learned over time they dont like just to keep it from getting icky from sitting in the run.
