Lils Roost
Chirping
I have 3 chicks that I've had for a week and who are now 7 weeks old; 2 Buff Orpington's and a Rhode Island Red. I also have 3 adult hens who are in a separate coop / run from the chicks. Since the chicks have been here, the 2 Buffs appear to be molting; they are all feathered with the exception of the bottom of their necks which looks a bit straggly. I've checked a few times and don't see any mites or lice.
Their coop is elevated and the run has mostly sand. There's a small amount of grass that seems to have tough roots. They were in the run with the sand all day yesterday along with their chicken starter and fresh water. They seem to be eating quite a lot of the sand but I wasn't concerned. Their food is crumble and they are eating it, but there is also a lot being left on the ground. This morning I found this (picture). There was also another poop with a bit of pink in it and in it there was a piece of grass root that was pretty firm but not hard; still pliable. Can you offer any advice? Thank you in advance!
