Caring for a quail chick

I have a single quail chick that's mum was beating it up (it no longer has a intact right toe), long story short I took it home and am now caring for it. I know chicks are more content with their own but even so it was the only one to hatch and it was already a week old when I bought it home. Its doing quite alright food and water wise, I was more concerned about it getting bored and extremely lonely. I take it out a couple of times a day (so it gets some sunlight) but its restless, it's always trying to run somewhere and that's a huge problem because we've got a cat and a dog that would just love to have it in there mouth.
Is there anyway I can entertain it or help it?

Any suggestions would be great.

A feather duster to go under. A ticking clock. A very young chick(bantam) as a companion. There has been a few times I have used small bantams to hatch and raise quail. In general quail usually are always running someplace.

Thanks! unfortunately I dont have any bantams, adults or chicks (I only have medium to bigger sized chooks) so I'll have to try with a feather duster or a ticking clock.:D

A little washcloth? A warm water bottle? A small heat lamp or other heated quail safe thing... maybe put some heat stone under a washcloth a soft one so toe nails don’t get caught in it. I had one once that would sit in a Tupperware container wrapped in a washcloth lol of course he didn’t stay long but he fell asleep a few times. The wash cloth was fresh out of the dryer lol

Maybe he just needs a snuggle buddy that is warm in his cage/brooder. Like a small heated up thing you put on your neck, you know those things you microwave? I have a small heart shape one. Or maybe hand warmers... don’t want him burning himself though lol

Poor cutie pie :( prob a bit lonely. Maybe you should get more??? Haha! Buy a 100 more and he will be good to go! What’s a hundred more anyway you already have 1! LOL jk maybe just a few LOL!

You can use a tub with the cover just cut the plastic part out of the center and cover it with screening and place the heat lamp clamped to the top shining down, then keep that inside a room without dogs or cats :)

Good luck... (I still think you should get 100 more... I always say to my husband what’s a few more? We have x amount already what difference does it REALLY MAKE? *orders another 200* jk I never ordered that many but I want to!)

The little guy has a heat lamp though we haven't been turning it on that much because it's been really hot lately (wouldn't want it turning into a quail nugget!):lau. It does have a little garaffe plush to cuddle up to and I put grass in there aswell. Yes I'll definitely have to get more :gig! I might wait a little longer though, just to make sure it's fully healed. I've noticed with birds you can never have enough!

I dont think he/she will be lonely, i think it will be fine as long as you accompany it?? Or maybe you could find another chick for it to be with?
