Hi everyone, I brood small quantities of chicks (4-8 usually) inside and have always used a 100w incandescent bulb as my heat source. My brooder box is a 66 qt plastic tote. I cannot get the incandescent bulbs this time around, so am considering a 100w ceramic bulb instead.

Will I have to lower the heat lamp when using the ceramic bulb? Normally I just leave it at the height of the box and it is fine, but I know that the ceramic bulb heat doesn't spread as well. I do lower/raise the heat lamp based on their behavior, but I am just trying to prepare prior to the chicks arriving. Thank you!

Deep heat projectors tend to be better for that type of stuff compared to CHEs. They tend to be more pricy but tend to last way longer than a normal bulb
