So we've got 9 Barred Rock, 8 Golden comets, 8 Jersey Giants. They'll be 2 years old this memorial Day. All hens, except for maybe a couple Jersey Giant roosters. They have laid up to 24 eggs in a day. Each of the three varieties lays a distinctively colored egg-golden comets lay darker brown eggs, barred rocks lay lighter brown, slightly more elongated eggs, and the Jersey Giants have historically laid a cream colored egg.
This winter, they molted for the first time. They stopped laying eggs for a little while, but the golden comets and barred rocks started laying after a few weeks cessation. Today, their egg production is back up to near previous levels, 21 eggs today. I have only seen one Jersey Giant colored egg over the past 3 months.
What is going on? Are the Jersey Giant's now laying different colored eggs? Or are the other hens laying more than one egg in a day? Is that even possible?
