Changing Feed brand and going to Medicated

Yes, chicks can have grit. You can give them some soil. If your soil is bony enough, it will have grit in it. If not, do you have a gravel driveway? That might supply some grit for you. Simply put the gravel in a bowl, and the chicks will pick out what they need. Or, you can buy some at the feed store. Be sure it is chick grit initially.

They should be have free access to grit all the time! If they are eating anything other than their chick feed. There is chick grit, grower grit and hen grit - different sized grit for different grow stages. Grit basically grinds up the food in their crop. Small chicks can confuse grit for feed and eat too much so it's recommended to sprinkle it over their food to start so they don't eat too much grit in error which can result in an impacted crop. I usually just have a bowl of it available to them or sprinkle it around for them to peck at.
