Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

I’ve had a rough couple of years but my chickens were a little speck of joy in my life. Out of my original 5, one died the first year from a predator attack, one died last year unexpectedly, and while I was away 3 weeks ago, the person watching my flock decided to let them free range. Something took 2 of them. They only found a wing about 3 feet from the coop. I only have 1 chicken left. Does anyone have suggestions for where I can find an older hen? I don’t need a layer, just a companion for my lonely hen.
So very sorry about losing your birds. I would check my local Craig's list. We have a buy sell section that you can check out as well to see if anyone locally is selling.

If you have an active state thread, check there for a couple of hens.

Welcome! I have been inactive because I don't have chickens anymore because I don't have a place to raise them. They lived in the house of my grandfather and my grandmother. My granfather died and my grandma have trouble walking and I live in an apartment far away from there. There is no one to look after them.
Sorry to hear about your grandparents. My condolences on the loss of your grandfather. Hopefully one day you can get chickens again.

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your Grandfather!

I went 40 years without chickens after having them growing up.

We have such a vibrant community here at BYC... tons of active friendly members. Of course, life gets busy, so I was thinking it would be fun to start a thread welcoming some of our peeps we haven't heard from in a while.

If that's you, come say hello and let us know what you've been up to. :)

(if that's not you, feel free to invite peeps you haven't seen in a while and say hi to those that post here)
Thanks for encouraging us to post. Life is busy but I do enjoy this group and have learned a lot over 8 years!! ❤️🐓🐣
Right now I’m dealing with guilt….because I had to take 3 cockerels to a rooster rescue. Raised then from 3 day old chicks. I had a broody Marans adopt 5 - 3 day old chicks from a classroom project here in coastal San Diego.
In my urban lot, roosters allowed but not nice for close neighbors.
The two pullets I kept are so much fun, but the older 4 hens are terrorizing them as I integrate them slowly @ 13 wks old.
6 hens is a good number for me!
Waiting on my first blue egg to come from the crested white Legbar!!!! 🩵 eggs are like little gifts everyday 🥚🪺🥚🪺🥚

Seems like forever when waiting on those first eggs. Your pullet is gorgeous. :)

I been busy with my Salmon Faverolles and one Americauna. Had two roosters lost one due to the Texas Summer heat. Had one egg bound chicken this year and saved her from dying. Right now working on her again due to a wound. Would like to get another Blue Andalusian hen. Mine died last year due to old age and the Texas Summer heat. My chickens are molting will take pictures and post soon, but doing alright
When you take pictures, consider posting your ugliest molting chicken here in this contest that just started. It runs through the end of the year. They don't have prizes listed yet but it's usually 3 winners of a three-month PFM.
