Cheryl's Hen House...

Hey everyone. We're still alive and well. I've retired...sort of. Cheryl is still working. We're in the process of starting a new business. The flock is doing well but is aging out. We've lost a couple along the way. Added a couple of Lavender Orpingtons a while back. Bottom line is the flock has pretty much entered henapause so they're mostly freeloaders at this point. We'll feed them until they pass and move on. Plan to add a few more in the spring. Kind of a bummer to have 13 chickens and have to buy eggs. lol...

Thought I'd post a few pics of the coop and run all these years later just for reference.

Great to hear from you. Glad all is well. How's your mom?

I hear ya, exactly the situation here.
Good to hear from ya, bro!

Great to hear from you as well! Nice to know we're not alone with the freeloaders. :) We've never looked at the flock as pets but still get attached to them. Don't see any other choice but to let them live out their worthless little lives under our care.

Sorry to hear that 😕
Thank you. It's been a difficult time. The loss of one's mother is obviously never an easy thing under the best of circumstances. Having to deal with her house on our street and the old house/property pretty much absorbed Cheryl and I for a solid year. There was just so much stuff. She obviously never threw anything away, ever. We literally had estate auction companies turn us down because of the shear size of what needed to be liquidated. We would still be dealing with it if I hadn't retired early so I could concentrate on it.

I got too tired to hatch new and slaughter old any longer.
So yeah, I'm feeding the freeloaders....just don't quite want to let go of them.
I have vivid memories of processing chickens with my grandmother. I'll stick to buying them in a package. These old girls aren't hurting anything. Plan to but 6 or 8 more in the spring so at least we get some return on the feed bill.
