Hiya! I'm pretty new here, so excuse me if I do anything wrong. I have four month old chicks, and my little barred rock chick Meatball is having some trouble. She can't lift her head on her own and is a bit lethargic. She's still eating and drinking fine and eats chick feed. They are still inside during the night because it gets chilly in the evenings despite being warm in the day- I'm hoping to have them out permanently by the end of june. She sometimes puffs her feathers out a bit and pants a little, but has no other symptoms. I put electrolytes in their water for now, any idea what could be causing this? Thanks in advance :(

How long has she had these issues? Posting a video would also help. Are you using a heat lamp or a heating pad? Any possible way she could have gotten a head or neck injury? Any other chick acting off? The reason for these questions is I have had an overheated dark brahma rooster that could barely hold his head an inch above the ground (once he was cooled of he made a full recovery within a few days). I've also had a polish chick with a brain injury and she couldn't hold her head up either, however the way she hung her head was completely different than the brahma rooster.

I'm out of the house right now but I'll get some pictures up right away. They have a heat lamp, and the other chicks have been moving around and fine. It could very well be overheat though because she's smaller but has the same amount of feathers as they do at this point so it could be easier for her to overheat? I've got the lamp off at home for now and I'll try leaving it off the next few days. Thank you so much!!

I wouldn’t just shut off the heat lamp. They are used to it. I would just put a smaller bulb in it. Or shut it off during the day and turn it on at night.

Yeah that's true, it's late here for me now so I've already turned it back on cause I was worried about them getting too chilly. When I got home they didn't seem too bothered by it being off, though
