For chicks up to three weeks I use small wooden toys designed and sold for small mammals. You’d be surprised how much the chicks enjoy them. I bought a multi pack from Amazon. They contain no dye, glue, or anything harmful. I also decorated the inside of their tub with waterproof cutouts of colorful insects and they went absolutely wild for them!
They were all pecking the bugs so hard it sounded like an army of tiny carpenters. Lol Interesting to see their favorites, too. The blue caterpillar is most popular by far. I’ll share pics. The bugs were ten bucks for 90 of them plus the adhesive dots. Easy to apply, remove, and clean.
My interest in chick enrichment stems from an article I read that said chicks raised with enrichment were happier and later laid more eggs. Who knows, but I’m a pediatric nurse, so you knew it was happening.
The babies certainly appear to be thriving and very interactive with the decor I provided.
