Hi everybody. So I got 11 chicks through the mail and was keeping them in a box with hay. The hay didn't absorb the droppings very well (if that is important) and now they have a fungus-like stuff on their feet... Does anybody have any ideas what this is? Will it go away or do I need to treat it? If I need to treat it, how?

That is footpad dermatitis which is an early type of bumblefoot. It is from the wet bedding. I would soak the feet in warm Epsom salts daily in a small jar or cup, so it doesn’t accidentally drink any. Then I would dab a little betadine 10% or spray some Vetericyn on the feet. Keep them on dry bedding, and I would recommend pine shavings or sand. For a few days, you may want to put some paper towel over the pine shavings, so the feet do not get worse as they heal. You can find betadine (povidone-iodine) at WalMart as Equate First Aid Antiseptic Solution or here:

@paneubert Is it IN their feet? Looks a lot like bumblefoot. How old are they?
haven't tried rubbing at it any to see if its just on the surface... ALL 11 of them have it
