I have a bantam chick, and it had begun peeping about a 2-3:00 p.m. pacific time yesterday. The membrane is turning yellow. Should I assist this hatch, or just leave it? I took a video, and because you can’t post vids here, here is the link to it on YouTube. I also added a photo.

What is the humidity inside the incubator? It kind of looks like it is gasping for breath, but hopefully it's just absorbing the yolk. It looks like one egg already hatched; have any of the others externally pipped? I always hesitate opening the incubator if any have externally pipped.

The chick seems pretty lively.
If the membrane is yellowing it might be drying out. If you moisturize it, the chick might be able to do the rest. I think coconut oil can be used, but double check that first. :)

If it was me, I would assist. If the chick turns out to be too weak it won’t survive, but it might be healthy and just a little stuck.

Hi! I’ll have to edit this soon with the humidity as I’m still outside caring for our older chicks. We have two currently hatched chicks, and their drying at the moment. No other pipping yet though

Thank you so much!! I usually use coconut oil on frying membranes, and that seems to work. Any tips on assisting? I’ll try soon if he doesn’t make any progress

If you're going to open up the incubator, I have had luck at putting a blanket over myself and the incubator and opening and closing it quickly without a lot of change to the incubator's internal humidity. Even if you can't see any external pips in the other eggs, sometimes I miss them, maybe this technique might help.

Can you hear it chirping? Usually they sound distressed if they are distressed.

If you take the chick/egg out, there is a good chance you will have to help it out the whole way, since the membrane might stick to it after exposing it to colder/drier air. Go SLOWLY and in stages if you have to. If you see blood stop and let it keep absorbing.
