Hey all,

I have a chick who I hatched from a Cemani breeder who was born with deformed legs. This isn’t slipped tendon, it isn’t spraddled legs. The leg itself will actually position correctly and everything is anatomically correct besides the right leg and foot facing inwards but it can position normally with corrections. I have supplemented with Nutri-Drench and baby bird formula to cover every vitamin B, selenium, or other nutrient deficiency. It is coming on a week old has lots of vigor but the tissue is starting to wear from walking/running on its hocks. It cannot stand and hasn’t gotten better since hatch. What should I do? Put it in a sling? Or does this require euthanasia?

I would get human super b complex right away and give 1/4 tablet crushed in a tsp of water, or use Poultry Cell instead of NutriDrench because you need to give extra B2 riboflavin. That canntreat a riboflavin deficiency which causes waling on hocks and curled under toes. If the chick has varus or valgus deformity in either leg, it may not be able to be fixed. Varus or valgus cause the leg to bow in or out one one or both legs.

Alright thanks! I don’t think it’s bowed in any way. I just feel like the structural integrity of the leg isn’t there and only just seems very unsturdy. None of the other chicks had this kind of issue. I’ll get some rooster booster. Would eggs be good as well or do I just need one or the other.
