I just was given a free Silkie hen, but her beak seems really long to me. Can this cause issues with eating? can you trim beaks?

Yes you can. If you've ever done a dog or cat's nails, it's similar, with a sensitive blood rich center. As long as you stay away from that part you're fine.

Simply use an emery board to file it back and shape it. Some birds may need regular maintenance so it's something to keep an eye on.

She looks like a healthy sized animal, her beak is unlikely causing her issues—otherwise she would not look so great. I’d leave her alone if it were me...at least until I knew there was an issue.

I suggest you watch her for a bit, and if she appears to eat without trouble, then don't worry.
