Chicken dead in coop

So sorry for your loss.

GRAPHIC ANSWER BELOW...

Sounds brutal. Sorry to sound insensitive, but where was the skin? And the feathers? I once had a raccoon pull an entire rabbit through a one-inch opening and skin it. Just awful. A raccoon can easily reach an arm in through small openings. Is that a possibility? Also, weasels can fit through small openi ga and do serious damage. Can you post photos of your set up? Maybe we can help you find where the security breach is.

Racoon or weasel. Weasels usually take out more than one. We had a coon or weasel decapitate a wild bunny, we only found the head, and skin a guinea pig beyond recognition. We had baby coon slide thru crawl space in barn to get into coop and got a few birds. Larger coons couldn't fit. Coons typically go in thru the top clean out cavity, and leave wings intact.
Sorry to be graphic. I am so sorry for your loss. I don't think other chickens will pack to this extent. We got our coon by live trap by birdfeeder. And our dog tree-ed another coon and my daughter shot it. Brutal, but effective.

a lot of chickens taking just bite each can do a lot of damage..
usually a dead chicken on the floor will just get trampled flat from the rest of the birds, though.
a weasel wouldn't eat as much as this chicken was eaten.
a raccoon does not make a habit of eating in any particular way.
there is really not enough description to determine what happened in that coop.
a coop has to be darned near water tight to keep all prediters out.
plug any hole you can find..
