Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

It helps to get more cold-hardy chickens.

We chose to heat our coops to 40F and raise silkies, not as cold-hardy, so it can be done if you so choose.

We have a Coop Forum with a ton of coop articles from our members. Some are complete with building instructions.

If you have questions about building a coop or run, this forum would be a great spot to post them. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/coop-run-design-construction-maintenance.9/

We're glad you're here!

Thank you for the warm welcome. We currently have 13 chickens at home, but are running into so many towns in the Minneapolis metro/suburbs that do not allow or have a very limit allowance of backyard chickens. It's a little discouraging, but we won't leave our chickens behind so trying to find the right community for us.
