my silver apple yard cross is constantly following around my leghorn. She isn't really bothered by it but when she does anything lil' walnut is following right behind her. He recently lost her sister because she had to be put down and he is a very friendly duck but it is quite odd. Can anyone explain this behaviour?

If that's your only duck, than he needs a friend. He's just lonely. I've had multiple cases of lonely ducks that stopped laying because they lost their friend. Try getting him a hen. Rouens, Welsh Harlequins, and Runners are all great choices.

I agree he needs a buddy. He is lonely.

I also had only one duck for a while since the other one died from a disease. At first, he was fine. We raised the ducks and chickens together, so they already knew each other.
But suddenly, he wanted to mate, badly. He would hurt the hens, constantly grabbing them by their neck feathers and trying to mate with them. It got the point where the hens wouldn't come out of their coop from the fear the duck hurting them.

Well, we got him some female ducks, now he leaves the hens alone.
Just my experience, I would get him a buddy/ies, preferably females.

How old are these Ducks?...How many Drakes?...Drakes are not picky of who they choose to mate with...If he is following around a Chicken Hen his intentions are not friendship, its breeding..If a Drake breeds a Chicken Hen he will either injure her or kill her..Drakes have 4 inch penis and Roosters do not have one..I would be thinking of a plan B for housing Ducks and Chickens separately ...

Drakes can be real mean to other hens, so I would look at the separate housing to. We had to just get rid of our drake he got so mean
