I thought Hattie was egg bound, so I prepared warm bath with epsom ... upon inspection, vent looked fine, inserted gloved finger with vaseline ... couldn't feel any egg, everything felt smooth and normal but hot. Could she just be ill? She has watery diarrhea and has long farts - not smelly at all. Just clear. Ideas??

How old is she? Can we see a pic? Any other symptoms?
UPDATE: last night she was doing better, walking around and drinking plenty of water ... sadly, she passed overnight.

Thank you - she is about 2.5 years old, and her tail was downward today ... this evening she finally got up and walked around, drinking a good amount of water. Her rear looks just fine except a mess - it was poopy but I tried to wash her up a bit while inspecting vent. I really felt around deep with my middle finger - everything felt smooth and fine.

That's all good signs, eating at all? You can try to make some scrambled egg to get her to eat if she won't eat her normal feed. I'm going to say she's just ill

Thank you - I updated my post, last night she was looking good, finally came out to walk around for a while, drank plenty and ate from the scrap tray and pellets ... went to her usual post at closing time, and sadly passed away right there at the top of the ladder. SAD! But we tried.

Thank you. I just mustered up the courage to inspect her thoroughly - there was a little blood coming from her mouth. Her vent looked normal, no rigidity or presence of egg but a little yellow diarrhea. Interesting - the left side of her belly had a blue bruise looking mark, and above it was a rigid, irregular feeling lump - directly beneath the ribs. I am thinking it was a liver disease.

Sorry for you loss. That lump is most likely her gizzard, and I suspect the bruising is related to her death.

Thank you - I also thought hemmoragic liver disease because she was a fatter chicken - and a good layer. Sweet disposition, that's what makes it hard - the naughty chickens seem to thrive lol
