So...last night I went out to close the chickens in for the night, and I slipped and fell on the ice. SO mad at myself...

Anyway, I was going to put in an auto door...and now I'm REALLY doing it because it would have saved me a painful injury and an ER visit last night.

So...my question is - the opening for the chickens to come out is 8" x 10", and I'm wondering if that's large enough for full-grown English Orpingtons and Silver Laced Wyandottes.

My English Orps will be between 8 - 10 pounds when fully grown. What's been your experience.

Oh gosh, so sorry about your fall. That does hurt, I know! I hope you're feeling better fast!

Everything is pretty much standardized for the vast majority of chickens. Chicken door standard size is around 8-10"x10-12". Are you sure yours isn't just a tad larger? We looked at getting a Run Chicken once and it would fit in our current hole.

Chickens will duck to get in/out, and if it's too big, they'll just stand there. Our mistake there was we figured to make it as recommended, and it's too tall, so they stand in the doorway often. :hmm

Thanks, so much for the reply (and empathy!) - I think you're right...everything I'm seeing does seem to be 8x10.

The girls are going to have to suck it in and make it work!

We have about the same size door and large rouen ducks and runner ducks are able to fit through it. I also have a half brahma rooster who is very big and he is just about able to squeeze through it.

We have one old buff orpington who gets through it no bother so yours should be fine
