Chicken saddles

Someone here actually recommended these. I bought a set and used one for one hen. I loved it! You'll have to click to go to their store for the other sizes.

If you aren't sure small, medium, or large, I ordered small because she's a silkie, but wished I'd gone medium. It works fine it just was a tish tight in the beginning.

They are good for summer as they breathe.

Once again I’m finding myself stressing( just a bit) over another chicken raising issue. Does anyone, and I’m sure many of you do, have any recommendations on good chicken saddles?
You can make some in just five minutes! @Tiffany Wikk or @Elspeth Dinsmore showed me how! I'll tag them!

They work so great! Soft on the wings and very light weight.

We had used some saddles before that we had bought, but they were too rough and started giving the hens some raw patches at the base of the wings. We'd seen someone else mention making saddles out of fleece, so we went to go buy some fabric and make our own. Here are the dimensions I used for my hens:

I own Buff Orpingtons, Lav Orpingtons, Speckled Sussex, and Salmon Faverolles. Most of them are a similar size, but I did have to make them smaller for the Faverolles. Generally, I just lessened the length between the wing holes to fix that. If you make them you'll have to play around with the dimensions for your own hens, I'm sure

At one point one of my girls lost a good bit of her tail, so I made her one a little longer, and it covered it up nicely.😊 Hope this helps. They're super easy to make and pretty cheap. All you have to do is cut the fabric. You don't even have to sew anything and it doesn't use all that much fabric.

(Tip: I used a plate to trace the round edges.)

Would fleece saddles make the girls too hot in the summer? We are in SE Georgia and it is sweltering here. My roosters are double mating my girls one after another. They are 9 months old and we have two roosters to 13 hens.

I think it will be cooler then other saddles. I have been using the fleece saddles. 🥰
