Gabby has several poultry shows and her county fair planned for this summer with her banties. She will be taking 8 or 10 chickens. Any ideas of traveling chicken carriers/cages? We really don't want to haul around a bunch of cat carriers. I saw somewhere online a neat wooden traveling chicken box, it was on wheels and was 2 sided with about 6 little chicken boxes on each side, painted fun colors. The idea looked like it would work well, kept the chickens seperated and had lots of ventilation.
Any ideas or pictures from anybody. Dad can build about anything.

I'd say look around at the pigeon/gamebird/poultry transport cages that are available commercially and play with the designs. I'm sure with a little tinkering you could come up with something that would suit your needs.

I have just finished a carrier for fancy poultry. It features twin loading doors on the top and twin release gates on the front. It also has a removable partition, that is great for carrying a pair when you want to separate the male and female.

Carrier can be seen at the July 10, 2010 ChickenStock at Gower's Feed in Ranson, West Virginia. More info and pics are available at

Wow, what a nice carrier. If my husband had his way that is the craftmanship he would put into this latest project. Gabby does not want him to use "fancy" wood for the carrier, she wants to be able to paint the outside. He builds her about anything she wants for her chickens. He just finished a second bachelor pad for her boys and is ready to start on her new covered outdoor run.

I use this...I took a dresser and laid it down in my pickup with the drawers facing towards the sky. I pulled out each drawer and stuck a piece of plywood to the open side making a box. Next I took off the top where the handle is and added hinges and put it back down. I then drilled holes in the sides of the drawer and dresser for air circulation. I did this to all 5 drawers and i can fit all 10 of my show birds in the and Im sure more. It is fairly inexpensive and is easy for travel...when u get to the show pull out a drawer and your 2-3 birds inside...depending on the size..Its a great carrier if u have something to move the dresser with
