We bought our chicken not too long ago, we bought 2 and not too long after we bought them Rosey (out of nowhere) died. She was very up and going the day before, and then out of the blue she just laid down and wouldn’t move and closed her eyes and couldnt hold her head up. I tried feeding her water but about 2 hours later she was as stiff as a rock and she passed. Then there was 1 chicken left named chelsea. She eats seeds but sometimes i give her small bits of dog food (only about 3 little dry food pieces, and sometimes I give her dog wet food, probably 1nce every 2 months, ofcourse only a little bit.) I think that is where I went wrong, because i fed her dog food then she went under the chair and wouldn’t move. I put some seeds infront of her to see if she would eat and water next to the seeds. She didn’t move at all, and I went to bed. when i woke up She had moved a little bit, but still not having her head up and not drinking or eating. I hand fed her some water from a syringe (plastic not sharp) and she had some of that, she did move a bit but still wouldn’t eat. She then stood up and then let out a runny wet poop, it looked like cracked egg with less yellow part. she then moved forwards a bit and then sat back down. i fed her more water and she drank some, but about 10 minutes later she wouldnt drink. whenever i touch her or pat her she moved her feet a bit, like rocking side to side. when i fed her water she opened her eyes, but stopped opening them later on again.

Sorry for your loss. Do you have any chicken feed for her? Have you only been feeding dog food and seeds? They need a balanced diet of chicken feed, either layer feed or flock raiser feed. Does she normally lay eggs?

She stopped laying about a month ago, either our dog found the eggs and ate them, or she has in fact stopped laying. That was my fault, yes, we do feed her *chicken seeds*. She just for some reason isnt eating. I gave her a little 30 minute break and went back out and she looks a bit better. I’m pretty sure she puked something up as i gave her water. Shes opening her eyes again and looking around thankfully. If she does still lay, we cant find any eggs.

We took her to the vet and they said there were lots of fluids in her and that she had tumors so they gave her the needle. I was so upset because i knew it was my fault, so i didnt even get to say goodbye because i was about to cry so i had to walk out the room. She’s in a better place now.

I think she’s egg bound. It has nothing to do with the dog food btw. I also give my chickens dog food sometimes. They really like it and none of them died from it.

I'm very sorry to hear about this second hen:hugs

It's not your fault. Sounds like your hen may have been suffering from a reproductive disorder if she had fluid and tumors. You did what you could to give her comfort in her last days.

It’s not your fault mate. It’s not you who gave her the tumor! You did what you thought was right and honestly, I don’t see anything wrong with what you did.
I suggest getting some new chicks and starting over. Chickens die. I had 3 who died this month, chickens die all the time. And unless you fed them to the dogs, it’s not your fault.

She was not egg bound, she had lots of fluids in her, and too much fluid in her crop. They said she also had tumors, and that it would be best to put her to sleep.
