Hey Yall Im a bit paranoid. One of my crazy hens has had her face turn pale on and off these past two days. She is eating and drinking normal and stools are normal. I looked her over and saw no wounds or anything unusual. They have plenty of shade too. Ive wiped down the perchs and checked the coop for any visible mites and didnt see any either. She looks a bit more paler than what the photo shows. But as soon as I go in the coop, pet her, give her a treat, she turns red again. Ive read way to much via google and now Im hoping Im just paranoid but Im confused. I went out and put some fresh sand in her coop and gave her her own water (she drank some) and gave her some crumbles which she ate. Not sure what else it could be. She is young (hatched in Feb of this year) and is a barred rock that has not layed yet.

Help!

Today her face has been doing it less but as the temp is starting to rise her face is getting pale again. i just put more fresh sand in there for her to dust in and put up a temporary shade to block the sun rising into their coop. I just found her dusting again but this time with her hackles up, is this normal?

It may just be the heat affecting her. Hopefully she doesn't have a heart problem, but her comb and wattles look plenty pink. Shade is so important in hot weather, and keeping extra water stations in the shade for them to stay hydrated. I will put some vitamin/electrolyte powder in the water every other day just to help. A fan pulling air through the coop is also nice if you can do it. Make sure your coop has plenty of ventilation, or cut some windows out and cover with hardware cloth. It's easy to cover them in winter if there is too much.

Hi! I was about to post the same thing. This has been going on for a few days. My girl is 4 years old and this has never happened before. The wattles by her ears go almost white and the rest pales. She has to sit until her wattles/comb return to normal color. During that resting period she breathes rather heavily. Other than that she's been eating well and drinking. She's not laying and she's been staying closer to me/the coop when allowed to free range.

Thanks everyone she is still turning pale on an off, but seems to be acting fine. I'm going to freeze some jugs of water for them and see how they like it.
