Hi all,
This morning I woke to find one of my pullets (hatched 5th November) in death throes. She had started sneezing sporadically three days ago, but had no other symptoms. Her eyes were clear, face normal, eating and drinking and running around fine. She and the rest of the clutch aren’t at point of lay yet so her comb and wattles were pale and small, but so are the others.

I rang the closest bird vet to me, all they offered was a necropsy which at $1060 I am not able to afford.

Tonight another pullet hatched from the same clutch started sneezing. I have isolated her from the rest, but she is acting completely normal. None of my adult hens appear ill and are all laying as usual.

I’m in Australia, and so we don’t have the H5N1 strain here. It’s heading into autumn, but all summer the weather has been all over the shop, hot for a few days then freezing cold. This past weekend was 34°c

There is nothing new in the coop, the last additions were back in December (two adult bantams, quarantined for a month). There has been no change to diet or water supply either.

I have got a video of the second one sneezing tonight, but can’t get it to upload.

I am sorry you lost your pullet.

Did you check the feed for mould or poisonous critters?

Thank you, I think I got it uploaded.

I did check for mould and couldn’t find any. As far as I’m aware there’s nothing poisonous or venomous in/near my yard
