Chicks lost in the mail - is there any chance they're still alive?

Just wanted to post a quick (and happy!) update! The tracking updated this morning, which I didn't notice until noon (the post office did not call as they'd promised to, but oh well). We went to go pick them up fully prepared for 15 dead birds, but were greeted with loud peeping! Only 2 arrived dead and 3 died shortly after bringing them home, so I now have 10 chicks! Which is 10 more than I thought I'd have yesterday. Thanks so much everyone for the sympathy :love
So glad most of the babies made it OK 🥰

Thank you for updating! What a (mostly) happy ending! Best wishes to the surviving chicks! Cheers!

Yay! So glad this had a happy ending! 😊

:celebrate :yesss::wee
Thanks for the update!
We once got a shipment of dead chicks due to a freak blizzard during shipping, but I can't now remember which hatchery it was. Might have been Meyer's but I couldn't swear to it. But anyway, they immediately - the following week, anyway - sent a replacement order at no charge and all was well. I've ordered chicks from several of the major hatcheties and they all seem to have very good replacement policies and customer service. I've never had a problem with any of them.

Very glad that the majority of the chicks survived! May they grow happy and healthy in your care.

To avoid the ordeal, next time you could just order some hatching eggs.

Maybe I should do that next time. I lost a few more to what I can only attribute to stress from shipping and I'm starting to think this mail order thing is more heartbreak than it's worth. Other people seem to have good experiences though so maybe I'm just the exception :(

Oh dear :hugs
Let the hatchery know and they will refund you or send replacrments.

I bought them from a private breeder, and he's offered to send replacements but he has to set more eggs for it. So it would be another 4 weeks until they'd arrive and I just don't think I'm comfortable shipping chicks in November. The breeder is only having me pay for the ones still living in a few days though.

That is very decent of him.

Yes, and it would be quite inconvenient to have to raise the chicks separately because if the age gap.
