Yep... I plan on it.

I think I can tell a couple of the males and females... they just have to be standing next to each other to see the differences. They're realllyyyy subtle!

I wonder if you would need a permit to own them? I think so, but I'm not sure. I was going to try raising bobwhites and chukars this year, but I think I might just go with chukars. There is a HUGE market for coturnix quail here!! They are a lot easier than bobwhites!!

Coturnix are definitely the easiest of the bunch. BWs and Chukars mature at 16 weeks or more, compared to the 6 for coturnix. I have about 50 coturnix eggs in the incubator now, but only 7 BWs. Chukars aren't laying yet, but with the days getting longer (and warmer?

) hopefully in the next 6 weeks or so they will. Which is why I started the thread asking for photos of people's chukar setups... I need to know what works the best for them.

I don't have to have a permit, but I don't know about you... you'd have to check with your fish & feathers department.

I took some A&M's to the sale last week and got for 2 males what I paid for a trio of pharoahs. It is not that much, but this summer will be crazy I'm sure!

If you give them artificial light they will lay eggs year round. I got 1 egg every other day from jan to May. I keep 4 chukar no idea how many males or females in a 2'x3' rabbit hutch and that's fine for the 4 birds. I used to keep them with my bobwhite but I had a disease run thru and kill off a lot of my bobwhite so I put the chukar in their own cage. Before that tho I kept my bobwhite, coutornix and chukar's all together and never had any issues with pecking or fighting

I know it's a really long time after your initial conversation but we bought a "pair" of chukar that look to be mature and wanted to see if you might be able to let us know whether they may actually be a pair or two of the same sex. We have had them for about 3 weeks and neither one have laid any eggs. Please help

Hi. Im sorry to ask this weird question but Im realy interested in chukars. Wat is the hen to cock ratio. Do the go broody and hatch thier own chicks??? Thank you

You probably already know this info but im bored and am doing some searching for you

says that at a year old you can tell males because of spurs, or wait until the hen lays eggs.

adult males will have a "cone shaped protuberance" and it's located centrally in the cloacal fold.

adult males have blockier heads

*if i find any more possible useful info i'll post it for ya*
Correction, Female Chukar have the spurs.
