I recently received a clay chicken roaster as a gift, and I strongly recommend them. The chicken I cooked in it yesterday, I actually forgot about, and forgot to set my timer. I left it about 2 1/2 hours, which is nearly an hour longer than I would normally roast a chicken. Then I turned the oven off, but left the chicken in the oven to stay warm because DH was delayed at work. After another 45 minutes it was still juicy, not at all dried out. I did put about a cup of water in the bottom of the pan when I started it, but had the bird up on a pair of 4 prong rotisserie forks to keep the bottom out of the juices so it could brown. Mine's a Litton Simmerpot, it's my new favorite meat pan for the oven.

What is the average price of one of those? Those look to be really neat. I would probably need 3 of them for my family.

I've seen them from around $30 up to over $100. I've also seen them 2nd hand stores for about $5.

So far, I've used it for chicken and pork roast. Both were wonderful, I'm going to try roasting venison in it, if we get any deer this season. It keeps the meat so nice and moist, I'm it would be great for any kind of meat.

Anybody have a good source for these without spending a hundred bucks? Maybe a company that's an alternative to the Romertopf? I broke one last year and I miss it!

Occasionally you see the old 70s ones in the thrift store, but I've not seen one in a while.

Nothing cooks better, really.

I have two clay roasting pans and a clay cookie sheet. The chickens come out of that roasting pan cooked perfectly and super juicy and tender every time. The cookie sheet is also fantastic! The cookies are always cooked through, never burnt, never mooshy. I love, love, love them.

I got mine from a party at a friends house from Pampered Chef. I think they were around $30 at the time. I am sure they have a web site and if you host your own party there are probably some party benefits for the host! You can probably just order online though.

hey...my b'day is coming up and now i finally have an answer for, "what would you really like this year?"
i never have an answer, because i hate opening gifts in front of people...i know, weird...

BUT...now i am dying to unwrap one of those babies! good post, THANKS!
