Cloudy halo around yolk - free range

Hi Clucks!

I have 13 free range hens with one fabulous rootie and of those 13 , 4 were introduced in the past month from some very particular relatives, as far as their birds go, and they are really great people as well.

Anyway, I'm making a really big frittata tonite and I have cracked each egg individually into a glass bowl. One bird's egg produces a large yolk with a somewhat cloudy halo of albumin surrounding it.
Otherwise it looks fine. She has 3 sisters that arrived with her.

Thing is, I have raised my little pets for over 30 years and have never encountered such an eggie.
Any input from you wonderful bird people would be gratefully appreciated. You are such great support!

Some hens do have that cloudy area around the yolk. It does tend to mean it's fresh, but not all hens lay them like that. It's nothing to worry about and the eggs are fine to eat. Sometimes it stops and sometimes it doesn't. Fresh eggs are always an adventure. You never know what you will find when you crack one open.

My hen Twinkie just started laying and all her eggs so far have that golden halo around the yolk. The eggs are delicious and I haven't gotten sick or died yet so they must be fine...
