These two were hatched beginning of August 2024 and are 20 weeks old. Can you tell me if they are male or female? I believe one is a lavender Orpington and the other an Easter Egger. Thank you in advance for your help!

Feather quality (or the lack thereof) can make gender ID on young lavender birds difficult until they become a bit older.
Good to know! I thought this lavender was a female but as it grows I’m starting to wonder if maybe male! Seems like everyone is leaning male. I wouldn’t be surprised! I guess we’ll have to wait a little while longer before we decide to rehome if need be (not allowed within our municipality).

I'm pretty certain I see pointy male saddle feathers coming in, and the hackle feathers are longer than I'd expect from a pullet. But it's odd that it hasn't crowed yet if it is the only male in the flock. I think it's a cockerel, though.

We thought he crowed one morning in the coop when we turned their light on (we live in Alaska) early in the morning before it was lit out but we haven’t heard it since so we’re trying to figure out if it is a cockerel. We have another younger chicken who I’m 90% sure is a cockerel. Probably around 12 weeks old.

Ah, maybe the small hours of winter light have something to do with why it hasn't crowed yet. I do think it is a cockerel because, as I said before, I'm pretty certain I'm seeing the long, slender, pointy male saddle feather growing in.
