One of my chocolate English Orpington hens hatched 2 chicks! The question is...what color will this be? Is it a really light lavender or??

My roosters: Chocolate & Lavender
My Hens: Mauve, Chocolate & Lavender.

Pretty positive the egg didn't come from my lavender hen because her eggs are significantly smaller than the other hens. (She's smaller as well)

Mauve is a sex linked trait. Splash + Chocolate = Mauve females and blue males.

I'd say what you have there is likely the lav Roo + mauve hen which will result in a type of splash. I can't think of another combination that wouldn't result in a solid lavender chick or something else more distinguishable.

Thank you! So possibly a lavender splash maybe?

I would say with 95% certainty that it will have splash coloration, but I am not as certain how it came about.

You can get lavender from lav + blue assuming the blue has a single copy of the lavender gene. But I don't believe you can get it from lav + splash since a splash is a double blue --- which is why I am confused here.

The mauve obviously has a blue gene, but someone else needs to have one too to get what you apparently have.

Since lavender is recessive, it takes two copies to show. Lav + lav will always result in 100% lav - unlike a blue/blue splash situation.

Do you have pictures of your lavender roo?

Def a lavender, no doubt about that and very handsome.

That eliminates the blue to blue theory.

I'd love to see an update on this chick in the future!
Thank you!! I will try to remember and update pics Lord willing and I don't forget!!
