Comb with purple tips

Just for my peace of mind.. is it normal for the tips of a comb to turn dark purple on occasion? I only see this in my cockerel and it's not all the time. It was a perfect 78° F outside so he wasn't overheated or cold.

Should I be concerned? What causes this?

Not sure if the pics show the color correctly but it's a deep plumb purple, not black.

It can be normal with temperature changes which bring on blood flow changes. But it can also be a sign of heart failure and other circulatory issues. Usually with the later you would see other symptoms such as labored breathing or a reluctance to be active. Sometimes ascites would accompany those types of issues, too. If it is something that comes and goes, I wouldn’t worry too much likely just changes in blood flow for one reason or another. But do watch for other symptoms.

Ok great! Thank you for responding. I'll keep an eye out for any other symptoms. He seemed pretty active and healthy to me. The girls keep him pretty busy!

I found this old thread from 2014 suggestion the purple tips may be from excitement if it comes and goes.
