I was wondering if anyone has combined chickens and rabbits in the same coop/run? If so, how did you do it.

I am thinking of having rabbit nest boxes inside the coop but seperated from the chickens.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I am doing this myself. We wanted to have all of them in the same building, but separated.

We are building an 8x12 coop, and on one wall will be two bi-level rabbit hutches side by side. Each rabbit hutch will have access to an outdoor run as well. Here is the basic design of our rabbit hutch: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/kathyinmos-brooders . We will add a hole in the floor to add a ramp between levels. Also, we will be using the studs on the coop as the back of the hutch. We have the foundation built, and hope to get all of the framing done this weekend.

I hope to have pictures in the next week or two to post.

I could never find a specific plan, so we have been looking at LOTS of rabbit hutch photos, and LOTS of coop photos to kind of combine them all into a plan that hopefully will work for us.

We are still working on the building. I have some pictures, but haven't gotten them uploaded yet. One thing I already regret is telling my husband he could choose the size of the building. I really wanted 12x12. He wanted to save money and decided on 8x12. It's going to be pretty snug. By the time we get roosts built, an extra 2-4 feet width would be REALLY nice!

We finally have enough of the building completed to move the rabbits out. We still have nest boxes and roosts to build, but the chicks are still only 2 1/2 weeks old. On the lower level of the rabbit hutch will be a pop door for access to their outside run. The run is not put up yet, but plans are in the works.

We have 1 rabbit in with our chickens. I do believe he thinks that he's a chicken too. He stays right with the chickens no matter where they are - in the coop or run. He took over the unused laying boxes the gals don't use for sleeping.

I was worried about having him in with the chicks until I asked our chicken vet. He gave the all clear and said it should be fine.
