Chicks are feathered and ready to get out of the garage and into the coop. I’ve seen a multitude of different bedding material people suggest. Just wanted to gather a consensus on whether to use:

1. Eaton & pasture hemp bedding with the roost refresh and revitalime

Or

2. TSC pine shavings and Diatomaceous earth.

Thanks

I personally would use the shavings. I would not use the DE as it's a respiratory irritant, and kills bugs indiscriminately.

Seconded.

I had really bad luck with TSC pine shavings (WAY too many fines that the chicks were eating), so I bit the bullet and went with Eaton Pet + Pasture. I'd personally skip the roost refresh. The hemp's been worth the hype so far, except it's 1000 times more annoying to remove from their feeder when they kick it around.

I would highly recommend using rice hulls! I’m located in Northern California and I get my hulls from Frontier Ag Co in Davis. I’ve been using the layer bedding method and it seems to be safe and effective for my chickens!
