Trying a camera to see who the egg eater is, still don’t know as I believe they know they’re being watched
This morning 2 gals shared a box to lay

I might do that if it keeps up. But, there’s only been 2-3 pecked eggs in the boxes. Enough to ruin them…Ours share boxes a lot too. You could try, other than finding the culprit, making the nest boxes dark inside and hanging a dark split curtain in front. Then they can't see the egg to eat it.
Do you have new layers there? The one from the roost sounds like it's a new laying hen.I might do that if it keeps up. But, there’s only been 2-3 pecked eggs in the boxes. Enough to ruin them…
Everyday last week someone was laying straight from the roost bar! It would be covered in yolk and down below it, apparently they ate the shell though.
Fairly new, 2 of the reds started about a month ago. It’s just weird because at first they used the boxes. I also found them running through the yard with a cracked egg shell and fighting over the yolk in the dirt twice now. Hopefully it gets to normal, it’s been a few days since these events.Do you have new layers there? The one from the roost sounds like it's a new laying hen.
Are they the ones you caught with the eggs?Fairly new, 2 of the reds started about a month ago. It’s just weird because at first they used the boxes. It’s a frenzy the times I saw them running with the shell so not sure “who.” The first time was very thin and balloon like. I couldn’t tell about the shell the other 2 times as they ate it so fast but it looked normal. I’d like to see who the roost bar layer is but since the camera it hasn’t happened. Are they the ones you caught with the eggs?
Were they good hard shelled eggs....or thinner?
Put some fronts on those nests, 4-6" above bedding, as they may be rolling them out.
Gather eggs frequently and put a fake egg or two in each nest.
Other than the first couple wonky eggs, the rest are perfect and hard. But yes, hopefully they are working out new layer kinks and behaviors. Not sure what the camera will do anyway, I mean even if I catch who and when, what would I do about it anyway? Haha.If the eggs are cracked, broken or soft shelled to begin with then all of the hens will usually join in on consuming. It sounds more like you just have new layers laying sub-par eggs working out the kinks and the hens are cleaning up those.
