Blew out several eggs this morning, filled them with mustard, and distributed them in all the egg boxes.

The hens pecked and ate every bit of them, mustard and shells, right in front of me.

Hens are weird.

Up the ante. Mix hot mustard with a huge amount of fresh black pepper. So much you can barely breath when you are mixing it. Fill the blown out eggs with that mixture and try again.

Make sure they are on a good quality feed that offers a minimum of 18% protein. I would also make a mash out of their feed and mix in a can of tuna. Do that 2 or 3 times a week in addition to the hottest, spiciest mustard eggs you can stand to make.

Do they have lots to do in their run? How much room do they have to roam around in? What is in their space to encourage NORMAL behaviors?

I thought chickens couldn't taste hot/peppery things which is why some people add cayenne to their feed to deter squirrels/mice/rats?
