I am running the beta firmware with RTSP support, which I use to connect to my home NVR system running on a server in my office.

Thats probably greek to you. But whats important is, it works, its worked when it was 5* outside with no issues.

I was wondering what camera would be best. I want one that connects to my phone, has good night vision, under $50 (preferably), and if this isn’t too much to ask (I don’t know anything about outdoor cameras) one that records continuously without a subscription. I’m thinking one that has an sd card?? Thanks!
I know lots of posts so mine is less timely. We have Blinks all over our property so when we put in the coop we added them there too. I’ve got 5 with floodlights on the ouside (many many predators in our forest), 2 in the run on opposite ends (1 with a floodlight), and another 2 in the coop (1 with a floodlight). They have been invaluable and require no subscription. When it is 10 degrees out at night and I want to check on them, presto. Been really happy with them.

A nighty night photo.

Thanks!! Blinks are definitely high on my list of options! I can’t decide🤣

I make my own using mini computers (raspberry pi and jetson nano):

It's a work in progress, I am a bit more ambitious than just spying on my chickens, I would like to eventually have a remote controlled, (ideally autonomous) robot to attend to the chickens on our off-grid farm when no one is around. It's going to take me at least another 2-3 years before I can come up with a minimum viable product though.

That's super neat. I like the idea of DIY cameras. I want to set up some kind of Home Assistant thing for thermometers and heaters in the coop.

I'm actually working on doing this! I am waiting on some electronics to come from an order I put in with aliexpress.

I'm using an ESP32 chip, it has a bunch of I/O pins, has wifi built in, and is super easy to program with ESPHome to talk to Home Assistant.

I made a post about making a wifi controlled coop door with it https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...hip-and-a-cheap-battery-powered-door.1648962/

Oh my. I am going to check that out. I need a autodoor and this could work well.

I've been using my Tapo cameras I linked here for months now. They are good -- but they don't record continuously and I hate that. But they were cheap - only 50 bucks - and they DO work, even with my wifi barely creeping out to the hen house in the pasture.

It's 200 feet away from my house, the hen house -- I know this because that is how long the 2 hoses are and it JUST reaches :lau
I came here looking to see if anyone had suggestions for cameras and after looking through everything, I decided on trying a Tapo camera too. We haven't gotten out coop built just yet but we do have the pad where the coop will go. I hooked up one of the cameras and took it out to the pad and gave it a test. My husband was able to see me walking in the garden so that was good! I'm going to guess that the coop/run area is about 150-200 feet from our house and our internet is Verizon 5G Home Plus. Hopefully once the walls are up I will get the same response/signal.
